10 people got stuck together in the lift at a resto and bar in Rajendra Place, Central Delhi on Sunday midnight. Due to overload, the lift got stuck between the first and second floors of the building. Four girls were also present in the lift. On information, apart from the rescue team, the family members of the people trapped in the lift also reached there. It turned out that there was no lift stop on the second floor.

Fire officials called the officer who conducted the rescue operation from the lift to the spot. Later the roof of the lift was cut by opening the door from the third floor. After the operation that lasted for about four hours, everyone was taken out safely. A fire department employee sustained minor injuries during the operation. The police reached the spot and are investigating the matter.

Delhi Fire Service Director Atul Garg said that around 2.57 pm on Sunday, his team received information that some people were trapped in the lift of Illume Resto and Bar located at Pusa Road, Rajendra Place, Old Rajendra Nagar. As soon as the information was received, apart from the police, three fire brigade vehicles reached the spot. On reaching the spot, it was found that people were trapped in the lift of the building.

Apart from the ground floor, there is a famous restaurant on the first floor. There is a large jewelery showroom on the second floor. There is a gym on the third floor and Illume restaurant and bar on the fourth floor. Since there was a jewelery showroom on the second floor, there was no lift door there. The lift was stuck between the first and second floors. In such a situation, the rescue operation could have been started from the second floor itself, but due to the thick wall there, it was likely to take time to cut it.

Rescue done by opening lift gate from third floor

ADO Rajesh Shukla told that at around 3.50 pm an officer called him informing him that some people were trapped in the lift. He immediately reached the spot in his vehicle with special tools. A plan was made to enter the elevator through the door of the third floor. The door lock was cut. Later, the roof of the lift was cut with the help of a cutter.

Nine people were safely evacuated from the lift at around 6 in the morning. But due to the excess weight of one girl, the roof of the lift had to be further cut. Later a fireman named Amit Rana got inside the lift. While landing inside, he also got a cut on his hand. He made the girl stand on his shoulders and somehow took her to the roof. Later he was taken out through the ladder installed from the third floor.

The lift had a capacity of five to six people.

The lift installed in the four-storey building had a capacity of five to six people. Meanwhile, 10 people more than required were boarded in it. Some of these people were also overweight. In such a situation, as soon as the command was given for the lift to go down. She got stuck between the first and second floors while coming down. The lift motor jammed. The people inside also tried to start it, but failed.

A group of boys and girls had come to party in the resto and bar.

Some common friends decided to have a party. There was talk of a party at Illume Resto and Bar in Rajendra Place. These include four girls Saina (23), Kinshi (29), Anu Khurana (31) Srishti (28) and six young men Saksham (23), Ankit (27), Pankaj (43), Gaurav (36), Pritam Singh (29). ) and Akshay Gandhi. The party continued till around quarter to three in the night. Later everyone was returning. During this time everyone got stuck in the lift.

Instructions to keep the bar closed till investigation

An official said that the fire department has written a letter to the MCD and the police asking them to keep Illume Resto and Bar closed till the investigation. A demand has been made that the bar should not be opened until the incident site is re-inspected. The police is busy investigating the entire matter. After investigation, further action is being taken based on the facts.
